Activated carbon does not remove ions from water unless they are chemically bonded to a larger organic compound. These water soluble ions can be removed by e.g. Deionisation.
How much activated carbon is required to remove water soluble ions such as NO3- (nitrate), CO32- (carbonate), Mg2+ (magnesium ions), Ca2+ (calcium ions), SO42- (sulphate), Na+ (sodium ions), etc?
